Windham Mountain, Windham, NY (August 12, 2014) - After investing $7.1 million in 2013, Windham Mountain Resort continues to transform itself into a year round destination. “The 2 year investment of over $11.3 million dollars confirms a commitment to the growth of the resort and also to the quality of the experience we provide,” said President and General Manager Chip Seamans. “We are adding terrain and expanding services while updating and improving existing infrastructure.”
Projects in progress include: a new trail in the bowl between the west peak and the east peak; a complete renovation of the resort’s base lodge restaurant and bar; a new spa and yoga center; expansion of the Children’s Learning Center; development of a lift-served mountain bike park; investment in snowmaking infrastructure; two new PistenBully groomers, and continued improvements at the Resort’s golf course.
A new blue-square trail with snowmaking is the beginning of much anticipated terrain expansion in “The Bowl.” The acquisition of a piece of land, on the ridge of the saddle, enables the Resort to build this trail and additional trails over the next few years. This is the third new trail added to the Resort in the last two years bringing Windham’s trail count to 53.
The popular restaurant and bar located on the third floor of the base lodge is undergoing a complete renovation. “The Après ski experience will be phenomenal and the new space has views overlooking the slopes from just about every seat” says Ryan Bird, Director of Hospitality. The renovated restaurant will feature vaulted ceilings, two fireplaces and two separate bars. It will also be one of the largest banquet and entertainment facilities in the area allowing for larger events.
To further expand the year round experience, Windham Mountain Resort is constructing a full service spa and yoga center. Open all four seasons, the slope-side spa will boast world class services, treatment and products. Non skiing resort-guests will also have easy access to the spa, which is conveniently located at the base of the new beginners’ area Whisper Run built in last year’s expansion.
The Resort is also enhancing its commitment to being a year round destination by partnering with Gravity Logic in the development of a lift-serviced mountain bike park. The master plan includes design, development, and construction of park riding features, by creating trails and facilities for a wide variety of ages, skill, and interests. New bike park trail construction has begun with a projected park opening in summer of 2015. The Bike Park will be a natural progression for the resort which hosted the UCI Windham World Cup. Over 800 racers representing 41 countries competed in the only mountain bike World Cup event in the United States, August 7-10, 2014.
Expansion of the Children’s Learning Center will allow for increased occupancy to an important amenity offered at the resort. The CLC provides indoor activities and ski and snowboard lessons for 2-7 year olds. The expansion supports Windham Mountain Resort’s family friendly reputation and goal of attracting new participants to the sport. “There is no better way to start families in skiing and riding than by providing an exceptional learning environment at an early age” said Seamans.
Continued investment in the Resort’s Golf Course and Country Club includes the renovation and addition of twenty-six bunkers, reconstruction of several tee boxes and the widening of fairways to speed up play. A total of $500,000 has been invested in the course and facilities this spring in addition to $1 million in improvements when the public/private course was acquired by WMR in April of 2013.
The grooming fleet at Windham Mountain will be state of the art with the addition of two new PistenBully groomers-one of which is an extremely versatile “park cat” that will enable more creativity with terrain features. Additional improvements include enhancements to the snowmaking system, significant upgrades in rental equipment, and a new scenic deck for weddings and events at the top of the mountain.
