Windham Mountain, Windham, NY (March 1, 2013) - On the heels of a successful winter, Windham Mountain will continue to develop as a four season destination with additions to both summer and winter offerings. Among the projects slated for Summer 2013 are the addition of Windham Country Club, terrain expansion with two new trails, installation of additional snowmaking and other significant snowmaking upgrades.
By month’s end Windham Mountain expects to take ownership of Windham Country Club, officially adding the golf course and its amenities to existing summer events and activities. Plans for the Club include restoration of the golf course to its former glory by repairing damaged holes and improving existing holes. Additional improvements will be made throughout all aspects of the operation from the course itself to the clubhouse.
In preparation for the 2013-14 winter season, Windham Mountain will break ground on phase two of the Destination Windham project, which is highlighted by new beginner terrain. Part of the existing parking lots in front of the base lodge will be transformed into four acres of skiable terrain perfectly suited for those learning skiing and snowboarding. The new trail will offer beginners more space and will help to accommodate both private and group lessons during the 2013-14 season. Two surface lifts and snowmaking on the new terrain will enhance one of the most functional and attractive learning areas anywhere in the country.
The Whisper Run beginner area will be grass in the summer and dramatically change the appearance of the entry to the Resort in all seasons. Future phases of development include construction a 41 unit condominium building, a skier services building, an ice skating rink, expanded parking and other facilities to improve the overall guest experience. Construction of the area will bring an enhanced focused on beginners to the forefront of operations.
With the addition of a trail on the West Peak as well as the new beginner trail, Windham Mountain’s total trail count will increase to 51 over the mountain’s 1600 vertical feet. The new trail will offer a less intimidating route between double black diamond trails, reserved for the most experienced and adventurous Windham Mountain skiers and riders. The new trail will have snowmaking, as will expert trail Upper Wipeout. Additionally, all of Windham Mountain’s snowmaking air compressors will be replaced, allowing for faster and more efficient terrain expansion during the winter months.
