Windham Mountain, Windham, NY (March 1, 2013) - This summer Windham Mountain will continue on to phase two of the Destination Windham project which is highlighted by expanded beginner terrain.
Adding four acres of skiable terrain to the Wooly Bear beginner area, the resort will transform the existing parking lots in front of the base lodge to offer beginner more space to learn skiing and snowboarding. This area will accommodate both private and group lessons during the 2013-14 season, bringing an enhanced focused on beginners to the forefront of operations.
“As a family destination, Windham Mountain is truly committed to improving the beginner experience,” said president and general manager Chip Seamans. “The expansion will also benefit intermediates and experts by decongesting the mountain and offering beginners the space they need to get ready to hit the bigger slopes.”
The new beginner trail will be known as Whisper Run, and with the addition of an expert trail on the West Peak, Windham Mountain’s total trail count will increase to offer 52 runs over the mountain’s 1600 vertical feet.
Two surface lifts and snowmaking on the new terrain will enhance one of the most functional and attractive learning areas anywhere in the country. Whisper Run will be grass in the summer and dramatically change the appearance of the entry to the Resort in all seasons.
Destination Windham construction began last summer with changes to the culvert infrastructure beneath the future roadways. The initial phase also included repairs needed following Hurricane Irene.
Future phases of development include construction a 41 unit condominium building, an ice skating rink, expanded parking, roadway and storm-water enhancements, and other facilities to improve the overall guest experience.
