b'the different seasono f g r e e nAs we put the finishing touches on our second edition of Above and Beyond, the days are getting shorter and the first exhilarating signs of fall are making themselves known. Its been a remarkable, albeit different spring and summer here at Windham Mountain.Back in March of 2020, as the ski season abruptly came to an end due to Covid-19, there was a time when we all wondered whether there would be a summer season? Uncertainty was the name of the game. Plans were made, changed, and made again. Fortunately, the methodical re-opening of New York State was well-timed with Windhams summeroperating season.First to resume was golfa sport somewhat ideally-suited for aworld of social distancingat Windham Country Club. Following golf, Mulligans Pubcame on-line with takeout and delivery options that were eventually expanded toinclude indoor and outdoor dining on the country club back deck.Despite a late start, the Windham Mountain Bike Park was re-imagined with on-line ticket and rental offerings, coupled with the new Lunch Box food truck option and enhanced safety measures. The trail crew worked hard to buff out the trails and tune up the rental bikes. The annual Music on the Mountain concert series was re-worked as nine Drive-in Jam music events, proving that, despite the pandemic, the music would still go on.In July, Windhams lodging team at the Winwood Inn rolled out enhanced safety and cleaning protocols and welcomed guests back to the Inn, condominiums, and popular outdoor pool.Through all of the changes, it was clear that guest interest in mountain adventures and getaways remains high despite the challenges brought by the Covid age.In fact, the bike park, skyride and golf course all saw higher-than-anticipated visitation as outdoor, socially-distanced entertainment helped to bring new guests to the region and take our minds off the challenges of everyday lifeeven if just for a few minutes or hours.Looking ahead to summer of 2021, were optimistic that many of our favorite events and pastimes will returnfrom the Keg, Rattle and Roll beer, wine and music festival slated for July 31-August 1, 2021 to our signature summer weddings high atop the mountain. To that end, future potential wedding parties should plan now for summer 2021 dates, as demand is especially high due to many postponements this summer. What will next summer look like? Even the most reliable crystal ball might not be able to fully capture the events a year from now. But, if this summer is any indication, the sights, sounds, tastes and joys of summer will very much be alive and well high atop Windham Mountain as we welcome a different season of green.Dave Kulis EditorAbove and Beyond64 above & beyondwinter 2020-2021'
