Windham Mountain Snowboarding Program
A 14 Week Snowboarding Skills Training and Competition Preparation Program.
To instill a lifelong love for the sport of snowboarding through the integration of physical skill development, safety awareness and socialization. From introducing the sport to young riders, learning the fundamentals of snowboarding through fun and discovery, to building on the fundamentals, emphasizing the development of solid riding skills, to refining skills in the various areas of snowboarding.
In an effort to meet the needs of families and young riders, Windham Mountain offers the following program options:
Junior Development Mini Riders Program: ages 4-6
Introducing the fundamentals of snowboarding at an early age. Riders of this ages will learn the basics of snowboarding - stance, mechanics of turning, linked turns. Safety and fun will be stressed. Independence in equipment use will be encouraged.
This program will be available for half-day option only. Program participants should have previous experience on a snowboard.
Junior Development Mountain Riders Program: ages 7-16
Developing the skills of a rider who has previously learned the fundamentals of snowboarding. The mountain rider will build a strong foundation of stance and various turn shapes, allowing for the mastery of an all mountain rider. Participants will be introduced to and given opportunity to develop and master freestyle, alpine and combined skills. Safety, fun and learning will be stressed. Independence in equipment use and care will be encouraged. Participants' ability on a snowboard will determine the level group they will be placed in.
This program will be available for both half day and full day options. Program participants should have previous experience on a snowboard.
Junior Development Competition Program: ages 7-16
Developing the skills of a rider who desires to compete in local and regional competitions. The competitor will build a strong foundation of stance and various trun shapes, allowing for the mastery of an all mountain rider. The basics of freestyle, alpine and combined skills will be introduced, developed and mastered by participants. Safety, fun, learning and good sportsmanship will be stressed. Independent use and care will be encouraged.
Participants will be grouped by the following age categories: Ruggie (7 and under*); Grommet (8-9); Menehue (10-11); Breaker (12-13); Youth (14-16). Ruggies through Menehues will be coached to grow maturity and independence through attending local competitions and regional events help at Windham Mountain. Breakers and above will be provided a coach at USASA events held at mountains within the regional series.
This program will be available in full day only/ Participants must have previous experience on a snowboard.
*Consideration will be given to riders under the age of seven who have been assessed by a qualified coach to have the skills necessary for this program.
