Quickly develop a feel for the snow while learning effective skiing and riding strategies. Our innovative Open Learning Environment Program will get you going with confidence and success.
About the OLE Program:
The Open Learning Environment Program is a unique and extraordinarily effective way to learn to ski and ride. It is based on the understanding that skiing and riding are fundamentally open skills. As such, the most effective learning takes place in an open learning environment. Incorporating the latest sports research on open versus closed skill development, the OLE Program utilizes the Experiential Learning Model of Prof. David A. Kolb, Educational Theorist, and importantly, integrates the open learning environment with zone-based teaching. These elements allow students to move through the various performance zones as their personal skiing and riding skills and their comfort with varying terrain develop. The program also uses a simple, non-technical approach that accelerates the learner’s skill development by focusing on sensation and outcome rather than complex descriptions of what to do. You learn to ski and ride by actually skiing and riding!
Windham Mountain Resort’s Open Learning Environment Program was put together by members of the Snow Sports School staff. The concepts of the OLE Program are based on research by Joan Heaton and Jim Vigani involving the incorporation of open skill learning into modern ski teaching methodologies. Bruce Meirowitz has concurrently adapted the elements of open skill learning into the snowboard teaching methodologies. Tony Sturnolo has been instrumental in organizing and coordinating the Zone-teaching logistics.
