WINDHAM, NY - With attractions like the Big Air Bag and bungee trampoline, Windham has become known for finding innovative - and very fun - outdoor activities. Now there's another one, called the Snow Ball.
The Snow Ball is an inflated plastic ball with another ball inside, creating a layer of air between them as a cushion for passengers. Once passengers are inside, they are strapped in to a harness that holds them firmly in place. Then the moment of truth: being rolled down a hill - in this case, a snowy lane at the adventure park. The snow ball is designed for two people.
"If you've ever wondered what it's like to be in a washing machine or clothes dryer for a while, this is your chance to find out," laughs Kirt Zimmer, director of marketing for the resort. "It's a fairly chaotic 15 seconds and nothing like any ride I've been on in my life. Guests so far have been laughing hysterically when they climb out at the bottom."
The Snow Ball is one of many activities at Windham Mountain that make it an attractive destination for families. Skiing and snowboarding are still the main focus at the resort, but there are many other activities ranging from snow tubing to ice skating and a rock climbing wall. Together, it makes for an eclectic range of outdoor recreation experiences.
Cost to ride the Snow Ball is $20 per person per time down the hill. From the giddy expressions on those who have tried it so far, it's well worth it! The resort plans to offer the attraction at the adventure park in the summer, as well.
Windham Mountain, located in the northern Catskills town of Windham, New York, is a family-friendly winter resort that offers skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing and many other winter activities.
